I don't think they ever broke it open. I've heard a myriad of reasons why they didn't break it, but I think they were scared of the hoards of people they let in and the few security people they had, who probably couldn't control them. Disappointing? Yeah, but if the candy was the crappy candy they placated the crowd with, it sucked anyway.

What was the pinata for? Did they break it open and everyone got free candies?
